Tossed into the rhythm of a relentless surf that could capsize her from one moment to the next, the frail, immaculate white boat set sail. The sky above was bluish-grey in unusual intensity.
An unprecedented storm hit the small island town with the evocative name of Batu Bulan - Moon Stone. Only a few drops of rain now drew circles in brackish, muddy water. Here and there, there were branches, plastics, like so many obstacles she had to navigate.
She looked rather majestic in the gutter, in the middle of the traffic, with horns and halos of lights interspersed with neon signs, car and motorcycle headlights. She left in her wake, as if suspended in the air, the small hand of a child kneeling on the footpath, in front of his parents’ shop.
Biblical light bathed this scene. His little fingers pointed in the triangle’s direction, which served as a sail. They were the allegory of the Lord’s hand.
The two formed a peaceful microcosm, in contrast with the noisy and hostile environment.
His gaze followed his creation as if it were his greatest achievement. There was an infinite sweetness on his face. Absolute calm and determination are the secrecy of the candid. They radiated pride in duty accomplished here and now.
Nothing else mattered. Not even the inevitable destiny of his origami sailboat. Sailing in the sewer's direction, where she would sink a few meters down.
Sweetness and determination are two concepts that we adults too often find difficult to reconcile. However, they are fundamental elements in the alchemy of life, the outcome of which makes no mystery in this world.
